Youth 4 Hoods: Summer begins

After a transformative 9-month journey, the Youth 4 Hoods Advocacy Academy completed its pilot with the California Service to Science Academy (CSSA)—and was chosen as one of the state’s standout programs! This recognition highlights our youth-led approach to advocacy, prevention, and leadership. The feature underscores the academy’s role in uplifting community voices through education, civic engagement, and prevention work.

Phoenix House hosted a youth-led photography exhibit as part of National Prevention Week. Students captured their vision of resilience and hope, accompanied by community partners and substance-free fun like mocktails—reinforcing the value of prevention through creativity and connection.

This month’s guest on The Art of Action radio show was Amangie Rodriguez of BankCard USA, who shared wisdom on business transparency, relationship building, and fraud prevention. The show continues to spotlight leaders making a difference in their communities.

Students from Alliance Marine’s Robotics and Mechatronics program impressed with their technical skills and teamwork during a community showcase. From coding to robot design, it was a vibrant event full of innovation and youthful energy, backed by strong educator support.

Hugo and Jason wrapped up their first Project TND cohort at Sylmar Charter High School, engaging 20 graduating seniors in sessions covering self-control, communication, and substance awareness. Students gave heartfelt feedback and left equipped with tools for healthier choices.

A successful evaluation of the Youth 4 Hoods Advocacy Academy showed increased confidence in youth leadership and public speaking, plus improved awareness of substance use harm. This page also includes a job posting for a Prevention Education Program Facilitator at Parents Anonymous.

Pueblo y Salud is launching a parent-focused workshop series called Guiding Good Choices, teaching communication, setting expectations, anger management, and drug resistance strategies. The five-week series is aimed at strengthening family bonds and youth wellbeing.
