Life Skills Training

Substance abuse has long been regarded as one of the most important problems facing the community. Research statistics indicate that over 400,000 people die each year due to smoking related illnesses. If you add to that the death toll resulting from alcohol and illicit drug use, the total increases to over half a million deaths per year. Botvin LifeSkills Training is a research based, comprehensive and effective program that is to proven to reduce the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.  

Drug Abuse and Violence

This unit introduces the students to the program and reviews the causes of drug abuse, as well as some factors that can lead to it.

Making Decisions

This unit reviews the 3 Cs model of decision making and presents students with situations to practice.

Media Influences

This unit reviews common advertising techniques and explores how they are used to target particular markets.

Coping with Anxiety

In this unit, students review three techniques that reduce feelings of stress and anxiety and learn two more they can draw on and use when facing stressful situations.

Coping with Anger

Students learn more complex techniques that can help keep them keep their anger under control.

Communication Skills

Students focus on developing listening skills that demonstrate their ability to accurately hear the message being sent.

Social Skills

Students review a variety of techniques to help them overcome shyness and learn how to initiate social contacts.

Assertiveness

Students review techniques that help them be more assertive.

Resolving Conflicts

Students review five techniques that can be used to help resolve conflicts.

Resisting Peer Pressure

This session is to provide students a chance to practice their skills in resisting peer pressure.
