The Rising Concerns of Modern Marijuana

Writer's picture: Hugo BlancoHugo Blanco

This article explores both interesting and concerning trends related to the increasing use of marijuana. One of the key points highlighted is that today’s marijuana is significantly more potent than it was in past decades. This rise in potency has been linked to serious mental health effects, including depression, anxiety, and psychosis. Studies cited in the article reveal a correlation between higher rates of these mental illnesses and marijuana use, particularly among adolescents and young adults. The increasing use of marijuana among adolescents is especially troubling as societal perceptions of its risks continue to decline. This shift in perception is influenced by various factors, including the legalization and commercialization of marijuana.

Another major concern discussed in the article is the growing prevalence of Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD), with one in three frequent marijuana users developing a dependency. The widespread misconception that marijuana is not addictive or that users cannot become dependent is simply untrue. Legalization has made marijuana more accessible, and the continued increase in its potency only heightens these concerns.
