Meet Sierra Native Alliance - guests on the Art of Action share their perspectives on prevention in Placer County, CA.

Hugo and Jason, hosts of the Art of Action on KROJ 101.5 FM, had Mateo and Yasmine from Sierra Native Alliance (SNA) as guests on their show, where they discussed how their cultural resource center and SUD agency is spearheading prevention and treatment in Placer County, CA.

Guests Mateo M. Ortega, Youth Coordinator, Substance Prevention Counselor and Yasmine Acuna, with the Peer Support team SNA Youth Department give us an inside look at the amazing work being done in their community. Serving Placer County for over 18 years, SNA provides a variety of services for adults and youth. In Northern California near the Sierra Nevada Foothills where the oaks meet the pine trees SNA serves a mixed population. A "purple" county politically, Placer County has a diverse demographic with indigenous families making about 4% of the county.

Both Yasmine and Mateo were raised in the area and have a deep connection with the experiences of the populations they serve.

SNA youth department provides 3 youth groups, peer support, and youth counseling, and one-on-one mentoring. Their curriculum is rooted in traditional teaching, developed by tribal elders and leaders, emphasizing art and outdoor activities. It is important the SNA that cultural leaders are incorporated in their work. Watch the full interview below and don't forget to tune into the Art of Action every Friday from 8 am to 10 am PT to learn more about our community partners from across the state and county.
