On June 6, 2022, the City Council enacted Ordinance No. 1710, which introduced Chapter 24 to the San Fernando Municipal Code (SFMC). This new regulation establishes a smoking ban for all multi-unit housing within the City, including duplexes, condominiums, and apartments, but excluding single-family homes. The ban encompasses traditional tobacco products, e-cigarettes and vaping devices, as well as marijuana smoke.
Effective July 7, 2024
The Ordinance prohibits smoking on the premises of multi-unit housing in the following ways:
Smoking is not allowed inside any residential units or in private outdoor areas attached to those units, such as balconies, decks, or patios.
Smoking is also banned in all shared and outdoor communal spaces unless a Designated Smoking Area is created in accordance with the Ordinance’s requirements.
Landlords and Homeowner Associations (HOAs) have the option to designate specific areas for smoking as per the Ordinance guidelines.
