This month’s Youth 4 Hoods Newsletter is packed with the energy, commitment, and creativity that define our coalition’s approach to youth engagement and substance use prevention. From college campus presentations to powerful podcast appearances, our team continues to be a voice for change across the San Fernando Valley and beyond.

Podcasting with Purpose: Prom Prevention
Hugo and Jason joined NCADD-SFV’s podcast this month to share timely tips for prom season, highlighting the importance of making safe choices during this high-risk period for substance use. Missed it? Catch the episode wherever you get your podcasts!
The Art of Action: Frankie Martinez’s Journey
On this month’s segment of The Art of Action on KROJ 101.5 FM, hypnotherapist and life coach Frankie Martinez shared his story of transformation and healing. With roots in civic service and a heart for helping others break mental barriers, Frankie is truly an inspiration.

Empowering College Students Through Education
Public health interns Abby and Valeria delivered an eye-opening presentation on the risks of vaping and binge drinking. With relatable examples and hands-on activities, they brought prevention to life for CSUN students in a way that was both educational and engaging.
Hugo Speaks to Young Advocates
As part of the Cesar Chavez Ambassadors Program, Hugo delivered a powerful workshop on opioid overdose awareness at Olive View Medical Center. Through real stories and life-saving training, he equipped young leaders with tools to protect their communities.
Immigrant Town Halls: Know Your Rights
In partnership with CHIRLA, PWC, and LA County, we supported two virtual town halls to help immigrant families understand their rights and access vital resources. These sessions provided a safe space for empowerment and advocacy.

Community Fun During National Prevention Week
Marc and Adriana hosted an uplifting event at Magnolia Science Academy that combined frozen treats, mental wellness tips, and hands-on learning for National Prevention Week. Youth walked away with both sweet treats and tools for healthy living.
Self-Care for Men: A June Event Preview
Looking ahead, we're excited to support Behavioral Health Services’ event focused on marijuana awareness and men’s mental health. Set for June 12, this interactive gathering will provide education, empowerment, and community resources.
